大野市は人口約3万人で、市街地、農村部、山間部ね広いエリアです。福井市や岐阜方面からは山間部を潜り抜けるので大変な山奥だと思われがちですが、山間部以外は大きな平地盆地です。国道185号線に代わる中部循環自動車道が工事中です。北陸自動車道の福井北ICまでは開通しています。
